Sugar Rush: Simple recipes with Eu Yan Sang

This weekend, we got creative in the kitchen with some of Eu Yan Sang’s Black Sugar cubes and used it as a replacement for regular sugar to whip up some delicious and healthy desserts. With health benefits such as promoting metabolism and lowering cholesterol, these black sugar cubes lets you enjoy sweet treats without the guilt.

The black sugar cubes comes in four varieties – Loquat, Red Date Longan, Ginger Longan and Galangal – each with their own unique health benefits. Enough said, let’s get cooking!

Nothing says comfort food quite like a homemade strawberry jam and some caramelised strawberries on a warm crusty toast. We also tried our hands on a local favourite using Eu Yan Sang’s Black Sugar. Here’s how to make it, Food on Fork style.


Caramelised Strawberries & Jam

What you need:

  • 1 Eu Yan Sang’s Black Sugar cube
  • 3 cups of strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon of water

Preparation steps:

  • Slice the strawberries into uniform slices
  • Heat up saucepan on medium
  • Melt sugar cube in saucepan with water for a minute
  • Add strawberries and simmer on low until brown
  • Heat off and serve




The Cheng Teng

What you need:

  • 1 1/2 Eu Yan Sang Black Sugar cube
  • 2 cups of white fungus
  • 7-8 red dates
  • 1/2 cup of lotus seeds
  • 1/2 cup of ginkgo nuts
  • 1/2 cup of dried longans
  • 1 litre of water

Preparation steps

  • Bring water to boil in a pot
  • Add rest of the ingredients into the pot
  • Simmer on low for 30 minutes
  • Heat off and serve chilled/hot
